The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

This book was recommended to me by my language arts teacher back in high school. I started reading it then but couldn't get into it. I tried again in college and didn't make the time to get through much of it. For some reason, I held on to it and attempted reading it for the third time...and loved it.

One underlying storyline with depictions from a handful of perspectives - The History of Love takes you through the story of how one book changed lives in love, in relationships, in careers, and in an unknown legacy.

1. Through the constant ebb and flow of life, through all our ups and downs, we are capable of more than we cut ourselves out to be.

"...I can say that the thing that struck me most about life is the capacity for change...There's even a moment when it becomes exhilarating to realize just how little needs to stay the same for you to continue the effort they call, for lack of a better word, being human."

2.  When you tune into your inner passions, that's when you're most alive and in effect have the capacity to make a great difference in the lives of those you touch.

"I did it for myself alone, not for anyone else, and that was the difference."

3. You never know unless you try. The world is yours.

"...it comforts me to think that the world's doors, however closed, are never truly locked to me."
