Meet Spring in DC.
Growing up we had a number of cherry blossom trees in our front and backyards. They quickly became my favorite tree and gradually became tied for first along with magnolia and purple trees (or more officially, the jacaranda). Nevertheless, it inevitably became a must to see the cherry blossoms in bloom in Washington D.C., and the opportunity for a day trip via Amtrak presented itself a year ago to finally see these in person.
The beginning of spring 2017 got me reminiscing on the Cherry Blossom Festival and strolls through Tidal Basin (calling all my Captain America fans!), the National Mall, and surrounding memorials.
Aside from outdoor site seeing strolls and checking out the Library of Congress, there was only time left to peruse the Union Market for delicious grub and catch ups with a good friend. Day trips = short but sweet!
Any recommendations for a future trip back to D.C. (ideally for longer than a day!)? Or for a trip to Japan during cherry blossom season? Would love to hear them in the comments.
