Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

I've had many moments when you read something whether an article or book that speaks to your life at the moment. When I brought this as a second book to Peru, I was questioning my decision for extra weight in an already filled backpack. But as timing would have it, this book spoke to so many aspects of my life from the past to the present and I already know will continue to do so into the future.

We're all human. Engage with one another. Forgive one another. Be compassionate with one another. And remember that you must be able to do the same for yourself before you can wholeheartedly do the same for others.

This is a book about showing up. And allowing yourself to be vulnerable to lead a life of joy, gratitude, resilience, adversity and Wholeheartedness.

1. Many times we run away from circumstances that make us vulnerable. But it's leaning into that vulnerability, the uncomfortable, when life begins.

"...there are many tenets of Wholeheartedness, but at its very core is vulnerability and worthiness: facing uncertainty, exposure, and emotional risks, knowing that I am enough."

2. Open your eyes and appreciate what's right in front of you before you completely miss the picture.

"Joy comes to us in moments - ordinary moments. We risk missing out on joy when we get too busy chasing down the extraordinary. "

3. There is no such thing as leading a perfect life. Turn imperfections into lessons learned to set yourself up, those you encounter, and those who will come after you. Lead by example.

"Who we are and how we engage with the world are much stronger predictors of how our children will do than what we know about parenting."

At the core of it all...

"Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up." And to encourage showing up, "what's worth doing even if I fail?"
